After installing the NVIDIA ForceWare 162.18 Beta driver, I've been experiencing video playback issue with almost all the video players in my Windows XP computer.
Every time I play a video file using a video player, only a black screen could be seen (the same problem faced by many others in this forum as well) even though the audio does not face any problem. I have a great feeling that this bug is caused by the driver and would strongly suggest NVIDIA to fix this issue as soon as possible. Without a doubt, some of the affected softwares include Winamp, DivX Player and Windows Media Player 11.
However, I've also discovered a temporary 'fix' to this issue. Before playing a video, you could try running the display optimization wizard in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Once you're in the wizard, just keep on clicking the "Next" button (except for the "Optimize Flat Panel" test where you have to select the "Show Test Pattern" button) until you finish the entire test and return to your desktop. After that, you could try playing a video with any software of your selection. It works for me, but I don't know whether it would work in your computer or not.
Unfortunately, this so-called "temporary fix" does not work after you switch off or restart your computer. Well, at least that's what I'm experiencing now. You would have to re-run the display optimization wizard to fix the problem again. But of course, it would be a total nuisance if we keeps on doing the test only to fix the problem. NVIDIA have to fix this bug as soon as possible.
Anyway, did my method work?
