Getting ready to build a couple of new systems. Looking at striker/evga/bfg boards so far as options. None of these seems to have any option in BIOS (from looking at the manuals) for memory remapping, meaning that setting them up w/ 4GB ram I'm going to lose access to *all* of the MMIO reserved address space. Does anyone know of a 680i based MB that has a memory remapping option available in the bios?

Did you ever get an answer on this? I have an eVGA 680i with 4GB of 8500C5D Corsair Dominators and I can only see 2.5GB in 32 bit Vista. I am running a pair of 7600GT's in SLI and I have an ATI Wonder 650 Theater Pro tuner card. It appears that I am using 512MB (2x256MB) of address space for the 7600GT's, 506,752KB for Direct3D Non-Local Video Memory (AGP) which is shared memory, I think. The ATI card uses some amount that I cannot read. The motherboard itself uses memory for the board itself, the PCI bus, the PCI-Express Bus's, HD Audio, firewire, SATA controllers, HPET and the two network ports use "some more" memory. I haven't taken the time to convert the HEX addresses, but It is obvious to me that there are too many addresses being taken up by my peripherals. I'm going to investigate which ones I can turn off...

None of the 680i boards have memory remapping in the BIOS. WindowsXP or Vista 32-bit will not register the full 4GB PAE. Its the drawback on both OS's. You need to either use the WindowsXP or the Vista 64-bit OS in order for 4GB to register. The max amount of memory that can be addressed in the 32-bit OS is 3GB. They say there is a PAE switch u can try by modifying the boot.ini file but I have not had luck with this. Research Microsofts knowledge base on this topic.

The reason you are seeing 2.5 gb is that the system is sharing 500mb to the video memory.

Sort of a Turbo Cache Feature.

If you go to Display properties, under ADAPTERS.. you will see the remainder of your memory.

Aside to that... I am in the same boat..I can see only 2.5 gigs with that same board. I have 3gb ram. I can see 2.55 and the other 490 i see them allocated as shared video memory. I wonder if that will improve gaming.
