Man ive posted this before and no response I know nvidia cares about thier customers and im positive it would be a very very simple fix, anyway here for the techies the problem is a Rebellion released game of Avp gold edtion "THIS IS NOT ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR 2" which was made by monolith . please dont confuse. all 6xxx cards and drivers " ive tested 15 cards " give the same result of black non rendering texture with coronas tearing.. nothing else. I can therefore DOWNGRADE my nvidia drivers to play the game, but when i downgrade most of my newer games dont work ie: doom 3 quake 4 etc. Can we get a resolve for this ? PLEASE ?

WELL consider what you just said about nvidia...I will disagree...I find that NVIDIA will only listen to the masses, single people don't matter cause were only the little dollar values...anyways on to your issue...have you tried downloading a patch or fix for the game?....updated your graphics chipset and BIOS? or try fiddling with the graphic settings on the driver menu that worked for me (I set the AA and AST to high) other than that i REALLY don't know...good luck with the issue

Thanks for the reply and your prolly right about the masses, there are no patches for my game that is aimed toward fixing graphical issuse " and none by the publisher and designers" they have left the scence hmm long ago, AA and AST set to high ya think would work for a game like this id love to give more info, hell if a driver programmer would like the game i'll send him a REAL copy i have 4 , this is a really fun game and i miss playing it, btw ATI cards new ones and alike play the game fairly good.

Im sorry to hear that, but again your right graphics setting outside the game shouldn't affect to much, but than again...different people different answers...well I'd just say use an ATI card they have really stable drivers Im currently using an X800 on a different computer works wonders and only installed 1 driver ever since i had it, but compared to my 6600GT O.C. (was hell to setup properly and fine tune all the grpahics setting for each game) it just a value card. anyways sorry i can't help you out anymore this seems to be a problem on the game developers side...ADIOS wave.gif

This is an issue that people on the AVP forumplanet forums have been noticing for some time.

Some people say they have reported it to their graphics card manufacturers and they are submitting "reports" to Nvidia.

Finally, found someone else with this problem.

I have exactly the same problems as mentioned at the top of the post.

The game runs without problems, but renders nothing except light flares and the hud. The rest of the game is just black. That is: all you see id the hud and any light flares over a black screen. Still... you can run around and guesstimate-kill aliens if you are feeling insane.

This is incredibly frustrating since AvP is one oft he best FPS games ever made. For the record my system spec is:

XFX 6600GT
AMD XP2500 Pro
1024Mb RAM (Generic)
WIN XP SP1

Note: My copy of Avp is not the Gold Edition, but the original, so it is not a GE specific bug!

If anyone has found any fixes for this which don't involve rolling back to old drivers I'd really appreciate some help, since older drivers won't work with most of my other games (BF2, HL2 etc.)

Man i tell ya this is really damn sad , its only ONE game i dont think they have the time nor care to fix this freaking game which i LOVE to damn play, how can one go about "editing" nvidia's crapty drivers to render the rebellion engine better as they did with below 71's ?

Nvidia does not directly provide technical support to people with video card using the Nvidia chips.

Your best bet is to contact your video card manufacturer and have them create a support ticket.

you gotta be kidding me right? nvidia dont help/support something they create... wow what a KICK ASS way to get rid of alot of customer service.. wish i could do the same for my job... "sorry sir we dont support your telephone even tho we designed it you gotta call prolly from your cell phone to the Mfg of the phone sorry sir we suck ! " Anyway thats kinda lame, so Ill give some information on the game.
http://www.rebellion.co.uk/history.htm
ALIENS VERSUS PREDATOR GOLD EDITION makes use of blend modes that are not simultaneously supported by the Riva chipset. Nvidia is aware of this problem and are looking into providing support with new drivers. Go to http://www.nvidia.com/Products.nsf/htmlmed...re_drivers.html to obtain the latest drivers.
thats in the readme... hmmm sounds exactly like our problem. too bad nvidia removed or changed something in drivers above 71's why nvidia ? whats the deal ?
to be more specific 61.77_win2kxp_english.exe are the perfect drivers for this game, problem is BF-2 and alot of the new games require newer drivers. and since im using SLI.. its even more a problem. Is there anyone who can construct a custom driver?

just to back woody up i too have the same problems with aliens versus predator gold edition and also think its quite sad that nvidia only pay attention to the "mass" of the community, anything to resolve this issue would be much appreciated.

thanks

I have exactly the same problems/symptoms as mentioned at the top of the post. I've spent days beating my head against a rock trying to get Aliens versus Predator (1) to play. I've just set up a new machine: AMD-64 3800+, Geforce 6600, nForce-4 chipset, etc. and gotten countless old games (I like old games) to run - but not AvP.
I am replying to your post to add my voice to the requests for driver support. If anybody is listening, I love this game and the ability to run AvP will influence my next purchasing decision.

it would be a very very simple fix, anyway here for the techies the problem is a Rebellion released game of Avp gold edtion "THIS IS NOT ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR 2" which was made by monolith . please dont confuse. all 6xxx cards and drivers  " ive tested 15 cards " give the same result of black non rendering texture with coronas tearing.. nothing else. I can therefore DOWNGRADE my nvidia drivers to play the game, but when i downgrade most of my newer games dont work ie: doom 3 quake 4 etc. Can we get a resolve for this ?

It also doesn't matter whether you use win98 or XP. Of course, this isn't the only game with problems. No One Lives Forever renders all textures in white in 98 but looks ok in XP. Problem is, no matter which drivers I use the system is still unstable and games crash or freeze on a very annoying basis. I even RMA'd my first card hoping it would solve things even though I didn't think it was defective. I just think nvidia has been releasing some horrible drivers. If I could get my $200 back for this card I'd give ATI a try.
