I read about this problem in another thread, but so far nobody has found a good solution to it. Anyone else got this?

Basically when watching any video on the computer display black is not black in the video, but gray. And white is also not white but a shade of gray. Like there is some sort of contrast compression going on.

I've attached two images and a test video to show what I mean.

This is what the video should look like:

But this is how it looks like on my screen (black borders added for reference):

My card is an XFX GeForce 8800 GTX. I've talked back and forth with XFX support for the past 6 weeks, without any results.

This happens on a clean install of Win XP Pro SP2 on a brand new Gigabyte GA-EX38-DQ6. Also tested on an Asus P5B. Tested about 6 different driver versions between 97.73 to 174.93. Also tested on Windows Vista. Same problem. Windows Media Player 11 used for testing. Also tried on different monitors. Tested with both DVI and VGA inputs.

Playing games there are no problems. Only when watching videos.

Here's the test video:

Turning off hardware acceleration or uninstalling the drivers fixes the problem. But none of the other tweaks seem to help. XFX support even admitted it seems like a driver bug, but they seem totally incapable of doing anything about it.
