Well I just spent quite a few hours benchmarking these cards and very shortly here are my results:

2 cards tested are:

8800 GT KO 512mb (675 / 975) - 169.04
8800 GTS 640mb (500 / 800) or at (580 / 900) - 169.04

My Rig:
AMD X2 4200 @2.7 Ghz (5600 level)
2 Gb ddr2 PC6400 RAM
X-Fi XtremeGamer Sound Card
32 Bit Vista Home Premium
200 GB SATA 3.0 HD
And the Video Cards

3dMark 06

8800 GT - 9705

8800 GTS Stock - 8628

Now... Since my GT is at 675.. thats approximatly 13 % increase from the stock 600
To get a 13 % increase on the GTS I needed to put it at 560 but to be modest I put it to 580 which is 16 % increase.

8800 GTS (580 / 900) - 9203 --- 6.7 % over stock

And Finally. As far as I want to push the GTS

8800 GTS (650 / 930) - 9504 --- 10.1 % over stock

Now With a 16% increase on the clock of the GTS We get a 6.7 % increase in 3DMark Scores
With a 30 % increase in clock on the 8800 GTS (500 -> 650) we get a 10.1% increase
Now we will see how the GT compares to the GTS at various speeds

8800 GT vs 8800 GTS @ stock - GT is 13 % better

8800 GT vs 8800 GTS @ (580 / 900) - GT is 5.5 % better

8800 GT vs 8800 GTS @ (650 / 930) - GT is 2.1 % better

Conclusion:
The GT isn't all what It is hyped up to be.
The real comparison is the GTS at 580 clock, because the gts clock increase resembles the GT's clock increase (both around 13 % increase from stock clock) makes it only 5.5 % better.
This isn't the promised near GTX performance we were told we'd have.
Yes some games get fps increase, yes the GT is "better" but the GTS is still a solid player.
The GT doesn't have ideal drivers out or anything. But benchmarks like VR zone and others either had access to really new drivers, or were just "cheating" because they got 22 to 23 % increase on the GT.
This is pretty hard from where Im standing.
Im on a fresh boot of vista. And since this 3dMark is being scaled (their processor is better so they get a bit higher. But it scales, thats why im telling you percent) they are getting untold performance increase.
Besides that, all the games show similar results. WiC and Crysis both get about the same 5.5 % increase, which is really poor.
Try for yourselves people if you have a 640 lying around like me.
So those benchies online are as the Mythbusters would say : BUSTED

Ill try to OC the GT and come back with results.

If you have any suggestions about how to increase performance please tell me so I can redo these benchmarks.

EDIT: Doing a test on e6750 with same 640 GTS and same ram / harddrive now!
get back to you in 30!
