Ok, i have the 8800gts 320mb version from EVGA and ive notice that on certain spots in the game F.E.A.R, the fps shoots all the way from 60fps+ all the way down to like 15 FPS.

Settings are 1200x1024 at MAX settings. On the Stress Test on FEAR, it is fast, 98% over 40fps. Latest driver on nvidia site. i have e6600 cpu, 2gb ram, windows xp pro.

I will point out the location that the slow down occur. I believe this is a problem for all 8800gts 320mb.

1)If you start a NEW GAME, after you get out the car, and walk to where the trash can with fire is, the fps drops to like 15fps.

2) At the point of origin level, which is shortly after, just before you get whacked by paxton fetal, the corridor with many windows and cars outside, the fps is also like 10-15fps.

If you have the game and have the 320mb 8800gts, test this out. The weird thing is that if i press esc and go to options and change some settings and then CHANGE IT BACK to max settings and return to the game, the slowdown is gone. If i save the game right before i enter the corridor and load it, there is no slowdown, but playing the level from beginning to end will result in the usual slow down.

I did a google search for this problem and there are other people with this same problem, some even reported months ago, some also say FEAR isnt the only game and these occur with other games too, but still no solution. The guy had to resort to returning the 320mb version and buying the 640mb version to fix the problem. You can read more here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=86982

To Nvidia: Why isn't this fix? Are they even aware of this problem? Many drivers have been released for months and none of them acknowledge this problem? I find it frustrating to pay 300$ for a video card that excel at stress tests and benchmark but cant even play a game like FEAR at consistent FPS. Even my old x1800xt that i sold was more consistent and no slowdowns.

sad.gif if this keeps up i think i might have to return it and get a new card, maybe a less expensive x1950xt
