This post is a copy from my initial story here:
http://www.netsoc.dkit.ie/modules.php?name...rder=0&thold=-1 QUOTE Some AGP 6xxx series Geforce graphics cards on VIA Mainboards have displayed corrupt 2D graphics (e.g. Orange Scratches, Weird Icons, Irregular Tiling) when used with the latest Forceware Drivers (7x.xx).
Initially I suspected it was some sort of issue with the GART Driver especially since Microsoft have decided to replace all AGP 3.5 GART drivers with Windows XP SP2's Universal AGP Driver. I ended up trying VIA's old Windows XP GART driver, this was to no avail. The actual fix is a simple registry entry "UseUncachedPCIMappings" and most importantly it is GART driver agnostic! As the registry entry location varies the simplest way to add the fix is to load "nv4_disp.inf" in your favorite text editor and search for [nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings] And anywhere under this section add this line: HKR,, UseUncachedPCIMappings, %REG_DWORD%,1 Then install the driver using the standard setup.exe method reboot and enjoy the latest forceware drivers!!! P.S. If you already have a 7x.xx forceware installed and you are suffering the above described corruption, grab RivaTuner and use its "Power user" feature to edit the registry entry.
