Ok, so I get BSOD's on my winxp system when I am transferring large sums of data to a 200gig seagate drive that I have, which is IDE. it does not happen with other drives. however I have dropped this drive onto another system and not gotten the error, which is that windows crashes to BSOD with the DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL error and says it's related to NVATA.SYS. I've seen tons of things on the net about this saying that uninstalling NVATA.SYS fixes the issue - but when I pull up nvidia drivers in add/remove programs, I have three options:
remove display driver remove ethernet drivers remove nvidia pci system management driver however I am having the BSOD related to NVATA.sys - can I just delete nvata.sys? I can't find an uninstall for it anywhere. help is appreciated. thanks. |

Next time you reformat your computer, disable all of the extra ports/built-in components you don't use before you pop the windows install CD in the drive. That'll free up more IRQs, which will reduce booting times, and reduce the chance of IRQ conflicts. It's not possible to make a change on it without reformatting since the IRQs will stay associated even when the components are disabled.
Update your BIOS, and update/reinstall your motherboard's chipset driver.
