I just got my 8800GTX(BFG) and I ripped out my old drivers, installed card, and then the 97.02 drivers. This thing isn't running like I would expect. The framerate is all jumpy (Prey, FEAR, Doom3, really bad in UT2k4), some times slide showesque, and sometimes when I launch a 3d game, the screen goes black with white checker-board like patern and hard locks my machine. I have also gotten the Bluescreen of Death while playing UT2k4.
anyone have any idea? I am playing all my games at 1600x1200 tried all AA/AF settings etc... ***** UPDATE Putting the card to max quality on the slider seems to have really helped a lot.)******* 3DMark05: 10117 (@ 1024x768 with no AA/AF) CPU: AMD 64 X2 3800+ Mobo: DFI LanParty UT (NForce 4 SLI) Drivers: nVidia 6.86 Memory: 2x512MB Corsair (CAS 2, 1T) PSU: Antec True Power 2.0 (580 wats I believe - 2x 12v rails @ 19amps each) Vid Card: BFG 8800GTX drivers : nVidia 97.02 (PSU has 2x native PCI-E power connectors) 2x Western Digital SATA drives DVD-ROM: I/O Magic DVD +/- R R/w w/ 7 in1 card reader This post has been edited by frankmon: Nov 22 2006, 12:44 AM |

Remove 97.02 and install 96.98, 97.02 has a bug where game performance is cut in half after you restart your computer

Well, I'm affraid your amount of memory is quiet low. I know it sounds ridiculous but after I replaced my 6600GT/128MB by a 7800GT/256MB, I noticed not much of a difference with 1 MB of RAM. After replacing this 1 gig with 2 gig, it got a lot better. I would suggest that you ask your friends or relatives if you can use an extra gig of them to give it a try.

With 1GB Ram you will have a problem when you turn the settings up. You really need 2 GB Ram.
If you looked at your hard drive light you will notice that it will be flashing away when your PC is stuttering, this is Windows using the paging file because it has run out of phyisical memory. This post has been edited by jasonbs: Nov 22 2006, 01:40 PM -------------------- Intel E6600 @ 2.4Ghz

Thanks for the input guys. I got another gig of ram, but lo-and-behold, my other RAM banks are non-functional
I also read about the CPU bottleneck. by cranking the setting I seem to have almost rid myself of this stutter, but when I first get into a scene it stutters on the first render..of every room, but never again on that map (that is the part I think adding the RAM will fix). again, thanks a lot guys. 3DMark05: 10117 (@ 1024x768 with no AA/AF) CPU: AMD 64 X2 3800+ Mobo: DFI LanParty UT (NForce 4 SLI) Drivers: nVidia 6.86 Memory: 2x512MB Corsair (CAS 2, 1T) PSU: Antec True Power 2.0 (580 wats I believe - 2x 12v rails @ 19amps each) Vid Card: BFG 8800GTX drivers : nVidia 97.02 (PSU has 2x native PCI-E power connectors) 2x Western Digital SATA drives DVD-ROM: I/O Magic DVD +/- R R/w w/ 7 in1 card reader |
