Hello,

I have problem in CSS with far textures.

The far textures are grey and they become again normal when I approach them
(see print screens)

Do you have this problem ?

PS : I have a XFX 8800 GTX with forceware driver 97.02

Is it a bug with the forceware driver ?

Thank for your help.

not sure but maybe this will help

have you been messing with the console? try deleting your config.cfg and autoexec.cfg files? ( when you start the game again it will make new ones.)

P.S.

nvidia driver versions past 84.21 are absolute crap and I would recomend you do not use anything above 84.21

good luck

Hello,

I have already deleted the autoexec.cfg and config.cfg file but the problem persist.

I can't try another forceware version because my graphic card is an 8800 GTX.
The forceware for this card is only the version 97.02 ... for the moment.

I have this problem too in Half Life 2 source.

84.xx will possibly work, but only with a modded inf, and the device code will likely show up in the cp isntead of the device name.

still.... these problems SHOULD have been fixed.

Yeah, I agree, considering counter-strike is still the most popular online game in the world, or...
is it that they (nvidia) are still sore about valve plugging ATI instead of them? remember the ads for HL2? the ones about how that HL2 would run better on ATI? plus the ATI coupon thing etc...
I have a 7800 GS+ and Ill tell you I had a hell of a time getting CSS to run on my PC.

I guess your out of luck, unless you can find someone to make you a modded inf or something, at least its better than waiting around for nvidia to fix anything.
After all, why should they? they already have your hard earned cash...

Its times like these when I really miss 3DFX and the good ol days when voodoo reigned.

I wish you luck, If you get your rig going maybe Ill see you on a CSS server.

I'm not sure.. look around in the game's nview profile? Not sure if it can be tweaked there or not.

I have the exact same problem, I also am running the latest drivers with a 8800gtx card.

I have tried using the drivers on the included CD plus the latest ones and both produce the same problem in game.

Hello,

The problem is known by nvidia.

Half-Life 2 Lost Coast: GeForce 8800 GTX fog looks different than
GeForce 7900 GTX fog, and dynamic shadows look solid black.
The GeForce 8800 GTX image quality matches the Microsoft Reference
Rasterizer. This issue may affect other Half-Life 2 based engines such as
Counter-Strike Source and Half-Life Episode 1. NVIDIA is working with the
application developer to try to patch their application.

Wait and see !

CS:S, HL2, HL2:E1 aren't even playable on my system for some reason.

I just got a new comp with an 8800GTX (specs below) and it's a complete fresh install of steam and the games. Initially, when I ran the games, I would be presented with intro vids, and the game menu - but as soon as I clicked anything, the menu would seem to go off-screen and the graphics would get distorted. Now, after troubleshooting with the various startup command-line options, the game just flickers onto the screen then disappears (I've taken out the command-line options, but it's still doing it).

I'm really not sure what the problem is yet. I'm going to try a few more things. I'll post again if I figure it out or make any headway.

System Specs:

Intel Core2Duo Conroe E6600 2.4GHz
eVGA nForce 680i SLI Motherboard
2GB RAM (800MHz)
ASUS 8800GTX Using ForceWare release 95 version 97.02 (latest)
SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum

Fixed MY issue.. I'm pretty sure it was some tweak I did, but I couldn't figure out what it was - So, I uninstalled all the nvidia stuff and reinstalled, and everything is working well again.

I'm having same exact problem with counter strike source with the gtx8800. It opens.. starts playing for about 5 seconds then flickers off and you can hear sound effects but nothing else is displayed so I have to shut it down.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Furthermore on playing NWN1 my frame rates are horrible.. they are about 15-25 FPS at best.. and I've shutdown a lot of the graphics and still it is horrible fps.. any thoughts for this one as well? thanks for any help in advance

desikida, i think theres a problem with the opengl in the new drivers, alot of people are complaining about lower opengl performance.

err.. are you using 97.02 by any chance, some people are finding that performance just drops for some reason

try 96.98 instead

Ahh yeah I am using 97.02 where might I got to find the 96.98

Also - I'm not sure if it is related to to video card problem but have you any knowledge in regards as to why windows xp will hang on the boot up window until I reset or powerdown reset then it works? Any ideas?

Thank you very much - appreciate all the help.

Thanks again - Still getting 15-20 fps on NWN (which I find so odd.. it is an older game and older video cards such as radeon9800 pro AGP card ran just as fast as this 8800 GTX card is.. Any other ideas besides driver that you can think of?

Also - the OS I'm running is windows xp professional SP2 - I am fairly certain it is not the power supply.. It's a nice BFG 650 watter that I've used before on another computer with no problems... any further ideas to remedy either / both situations?

Much appreciated as always, thanks.

its also an opengl game.. and opengl games are having issues with the 8800's for some reason.. if you can get your hands nhancer beta 15, try enabling one of the opengl compatiblity options.

All right got my hands on that program and what I did was select one of the options, turn on/off test the game check FPS/performance, etc. then would revert back to original and try another and continued this for all the opengl settings and most the basic settings and alas none of the settings changed the performance or FPS to a noticeable extent. The only one that made a difference visually was changing it to "high performance" and at that point the game was a wonderful array of trippy colors. Setting it on high quality, quality, or performance didn't effect the game noticeable especially not the frame rates.

Nor did the open GL settings (that I thought would do the trick ended up not affecting it at all)

Any other ideas oh wise one smile.gif

Someone somewhere out there must play NWN1 and has a Nvidia card that is getting these shabby 10-25 fps rates ... and there must be something to do about it!?

Thanks for all the help keep it coming if you have any other ideas...been researching in between posts as well.. very little information on this.. I suppose it's do to the lack of popularity of the game.. but I was thinking someone must have encountered this problem and devised a way to fix it with the compatibility issues between openGL and nvidia cards namely 8800gtx.

Let me know if you have further thoughts/tips. Thanks again.
