been playing Oblivion for a while... played it for about 80 hours with no problems... then crashing started to happen...
the problem for some reason is off and on... i can get a few hours good play out of it, and like today, i've tried to play it 3 times, each only lasting 5 minutes before the screen went totally black and i could still hear the music. the screen then went to standby mode. I've been dealing with Oblivion problems for months now, and the problems have been varied. My computer without the game started acting weird at the same time too, will freeze up and i will get the blue screen of doom, or i will just have to force shut it down... but this is the most recent, and i've decided to seek help finally, so if any one can help... When faced with an intermittent problem such as yours.
About the only way to figure out were the weak link is. Stress testing the machine. Have you ever done any stress testing? Not that it matters to me. You do realize this is an nvidia forum? You don't own any Nvidia hardware. Yours is all AMD/ATI AMD forums.com Just in case the admin/mods lock the thread you will know why... -------------------- |

I think your over reacting. No need to make it into some thing it is not. I'm offering him help. I would like to think it's an open forum too. Fact is, it's not. Hence the rules.
nvidia read me before posting rules Bullet point #5 This board is made available for discussion of NVIDIA products and services. Excessive postings advocating or suggesting the use of a competitor's product are deemed inappropriate and we reserve the right to edit/delete such posts/threads at our discretion. The reason I gave him the heads up. They have been locked in the past. So you see it's all good : ) What kind of attitude is that?

When i first typed into google "Oblivion help" i received this forum as top on the list... just assumed i guess i could use the forum for that topic...
and thank you for the people interested in helping me out. my friend that built the computer for me is too busy with college to help, and i've taken it to staples, and all they do is reformat it... and it's been reformated twice, and still does the same problems. as for the temperatures: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Temperature 0 45°C (112°F) [0x122] (Core #0) Temperature 1 43°C (109°F) [0x11D] (Core #1) ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series Temperature 0 48°C (118°F) (GPU Core) (i could not get a "during game" temperature, the computer froze instantly when i was about to start playing from the menu screen.) as for the hardware specs: Motherboard: MSI K9A2VM-FD AM2+/AM2 AMD 780V Micro ATX AMD Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+, 2594 MHz Memory: OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Hard Drive: Western Digital (465 GB, IDE) SATA Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series Sound Card: ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01 Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition Service Pack 2, 64-bit Powersupply: hec 6K34BS with HP585D 585Watt PSU sorry if too much information or too little... first time i came up nice and neatly with my computer's specs. |

By GPU-Z and Windows reporting that you have a "HD 3800 Series" card, it would seem that you don't have any dirvers installed for it, or they aren't working properly.
Here are the latest drivers for your card: Catalyst 9.10 for Vista x64 This post has been edited by The Professor: Nov 4 2009, 05:30 AM -------------------- |

well, thanks for the help everyone... i think i'm gonna go with the new power supply option... since it's not too unaffordable... and really makes sense with what's been happening to my computer.
if anyone wants to answer one last question... should i get a more powerful power supply? is 585w enough for what else i have on my computer? |

YES! Oh sorry for shouting. Two threads are talking about the lack of power for our hardware. 550 watt might be enough for a good brand name PSU but a cheap no-name type is definitely a no-go. Get a 600 watt minimum, I reckon. Some things to think about .... are you going to add more hardware or stronger hardware to this computer? If so, check out what you need over the next year or two and buy to suit that. Cheers. -------------------- ASUS Crosshair V 1.0 .AMD5200+ (w/c T/T block and Pump) 4g OCZ 6400 platinum
