A lot of PC gamers are going crazy over the new IW.net infinity ward thought up of.
402 is a Developer for Infinity ward and went on a podcast (which is almost 3 hours long) and said that there well be no third party dedicated servers in MW:2 (@ about the 1hr 30min mark)
Fourzerotwo was on our BASH webcast this morning and he had a few surprises for the PC community. PODCAST

Here are the snippets:


We're doing a lot on the backend to make the game accessible for everyone.

There is no delay for the PC version of MW2

There's prestige mode

Jason West at the MP event, said that he was dead on, on the matchmaking servers. We've been building a system on the backend called IW.NET.

You are completely reliant on IW.NET. There are no server lists. There are no dedicated servers.

You have private matches where you can customize the game

You cannot put MW2 on a dedicated server.

This is the first time we've ever done something like this and the team has huge plans for what IW.NET develops into.

Customizing your game...you have quite a few options in a private match

You're getting same game (as in Console), plus matchmaking and private match.

Server admin point-of view, NO DEDICATED SERVERS


I am calling gamestop tomorrow and canceling my pre-order.

While that is bad news, I am probably one of the few people around who buys the Call Of Duty series for PC just for single player; not online multiplayer, so it doesn't affect me.

I hate this news...
Because my internet isnt of a high speed standard , any type of matchmaking system comes with ALOT of lag for me.
I really hope they change this, cant see it happening though.. Oh well , never had the pre-order, but I might pick it up when it gets a little cheaper now.
If they do something similar to BF: Bad Company 2 I will be seriously disappointed.

hey hey guys wait up. This might be really good think about this:

WHAT IF, the matchmaking service is really good at putting you in a server allowing you to have the best ping. also matching you up with your friends, and or which one of the friends you wanna play with. WHAT IF having it this way makes it so cheating is harder ? If someone is cheating, they can't go into an empty server and test cheats, OR for that matter pick a server at all, and maybe that will making cheating almost impossible. maybe ? I mean, you gotta admit, they've been making COD games that have been getting better and better, and they know what people like and don't like for the most part. I refuse to believe that they are taking any steps back. this might be good.

This Sucks, Really Bad, I will not be buying this game..
As Me and my son were waiting for it... and all the people I have any influence to, will not be buying it either...

I only play Multi Player games..
And I want to play where I want to play, not where someone else makes me play..

This game takes away our FREEDOM TO CHOOSE..

This sounds like they are making MW2 similar to Halo and xboxlives autoranking you into servers based on your 'skill' ... this is stupid...

people play PC games to get away from this very thing... thats what consols are for!

Lol, and other the Third party server company's taking pre-orders for MW:2 now have to give back refunds.

So not only are they destroying a community. They are making server company's broke.


Sorry to let you guys know the bad news. just thought you may do your part in, Cancel your MW:2 Pre-Order At least if you like MP.

If you figure, MW:2 PC cost $59 as apposed to the usual $49. that extra $10 is probably contributed to there IW.net research and funding for that program.

Chances are the matchmaking system is going to be good , have clan support and all. You won't have the need for mods, dedicated servers and all. IF anything it's going to make it better MP by filtering the people in different skill brackets.

I think this has to do with cheaters, and when it comes to cheaters i know im desperate for a solution. Look at games like Crysis MP. GREAT MP but RUINED by cheaters, now one plays it anymore.


LETS START A POOL RIGHT HERE, I BET ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE SAYING you're not going to get the new COD will end up buying it and loving it.

It's a fact, people are in clans, you KNOW they're gonna have clan support, meaning you'll be able to play COD with friends. These games have been getting better and better and better, why would they all of a sudden take a turn for the worst ? We haven't seen what its like yet, and as cryOn wrote, lets wait before it comes out before we ALL make an opinion.

I never bought COD:MW just borrowed it of a friend and played the single player.
And since I liked it I was planning to get MW2 so I could play online, maybe.
I guess Ill just buy MW1 and play online then when it gets cheaper.
and also I wasn't planning to get this in a pre-order so i'm not too fussed but I can see a lot of you will be angry about this and if IW goes ahead with this and loses a lot of customers then they will know that they screwed it up.
also I will wait about a month after the next GTA release before I go get it since RS has also started screwing thing up too.

There are more then enough willing and capable community members in COD that are able to design and make things for the game. Look at ARMA2 for instance. HORRIBLE game, it's a betta. More bugs then a rotten log. HOWEVER, because of the community and all the downloads you can make this game run and look much much better, resulting in something you can play.

Before anyone gets anymore red in their eyes, lets take a moment to reflect on all the past COD games. The trend has been to give the people what they want and like. SOOOOoooo .. C`mon everyone, at the same time lets say it "IT'S GOTTEN BETTER AND BETTER"

If anyone is to blame, i'd blame CHEATERS. Im my opinion the whole reason this is happening is because of the epidemic of cheating in on-line games.

I have a few concerns over the matchmaking system.

I've always enjoyed operating gaming communities/clans. Being that I, and a few others have just built an entire community around 3 games, 2 console games, and MW2 for all three platforms (PC, 360, PS3) how ever focusing most of our resources, and time into the PC version obviously, and losing the only true community platform what are we supposed to do to help spread our community? Nothing. With out dedicated servers the support the PC community can provide for a game is gone. This is really the only truly unique part of PC gaming is the community every game has. With this match making system there are no more mods, no where to recruit for your clans/communities.

All this is, is another idea from the console realm jumping over to PCs. How ever as PC gamer I'm sick of consoles entering my gaming. It was bad enough playing ports, now I have to play on their matchmaking system.

This is not about "cheaters" dude! Hacking is hardly a problem in COD, MW or WAW.
This is simply about preventing the server providers for making money off of their game
and charging us for DLC, which as you've noticed, there was an assload of for WAW.
If there's one I hate about gaming today, it's how even after you've already purchased
a game, they try to nickel and dime the bejesus outta you with DLC and other bullcraps.
This is exactly why I can't handle playing games on XBOX Live any more than I have to.
You have to drop $60 for an XBOX game, then $10 for every DLC/Map Pack thay can
churn out, and now they're using that exact same approach with this game. I'm sure I'll
get MW2 the day it comes out, but I know I shouldn't. Just makes me angry that after
all this time, us PC folk are being lumped in with the social, console gaming revolution.


Edit: Just think about it. If you buy this game early on, and you get the map packs when
they come out, and lets say they make three or four packs, instead of buying what should
be a $50 game for PC, you're looking at $100 ($60 for game, $40 for map packs). I'm still
absolutely shocked people have already been doing this on consoles (i.e. CODMW, WAW,
Halo 3, and now ODST). No wonder people are poor, droppin' $100 on FPS games nowadays.
This news about MW2 just makes me sick. K, now I need to take a few deep breaths. /endrant
