For my new rig I am getting 2 x 2GB OCZ Reaper PC2-6400 http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quick...1150,4294953914
I have heard that with vista 64bit you cannot install vista with all 4gb. However the 780i requires installation of memory in pairs, which means i need to install both sticks! Should I install vista with both sticks, ie 4GB? Or should i install it with 1 stick? Thanks, Jez -------------------- Intel E8400

I have read that when you install vista 64bit you need to install it with 1 or 2gb then add the rest when the installation is done...due to a bug in vista...is that not correct?

Jez That is correct! The 780i however should not require sticks in pairs as that would make no sense. Just put in one stick in and boot that baby up. I installed my Vista 64bit with 4x1Gb installed and had no problems at all. It must have installed the patch when it searched for updates prior to installation. -------------------- |

And do you suppose, almost a year to the day since its release (both of the OS and the MS KB 929777 fix), that his recently-purchased copy contains that bug? My original copy of x86 does, but not the x64 I got barely a month later. Never had a problem with it. I could look up the various combos of AMD/ASUS that cause problems, but quite frankly I don't care to go to that much trouble for either brand. Just recalling various posts from the nVidia Hardware forums that spawned these (I still haunt both)... -------------------- ![]() DISCLAIMER: As far as I can tell, the views and opinions I so freely express don't seem to represent those of anyone else. Thanks everyone for the replies.
I'll put one stick in first and add the other after installation. That way nothing can go wrong :D Jez -------------------- Intel E8400
