Hi Guys,
Sorry to start yet another thread regarding Crysis - but I know a lot of people are having problems running the 64 bit demo on Vista (x64). Firstly I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 & 169.01 drivers. Like a lot of people I found that I could not run the 64bit demo - crashing or freezing at startup. As most of you know the common solution is to run the 32 bit version either direct from the bin32 folder or, as I did, modify the properties in the Vista game folder to point to the 32bin rather than the 64bin directory. However - there is a way - and its so simple that it hurts! I have found that if I enable (i.e. "Force ON") Vertical Sync in the global settings of the NV CP the damn thing works! (I have also set global profile to Single Display / Threaded Optimization ON / Triple Buffering ON - but those settings appear to have no effect on the x64 crash.) FRAPS: (All game settings on VH - except Shaders, Water, Sound - High / 1680x1050 / No AA / Fullscreen) x32: Average FPS : 26.52 x64: Average FPS: 25.7 (x32 (SLI): Average FPS : 30.13 - jerky performance - see below) As you can see there's little difference between the non-SLI rates - however loading times - and loading of textures were much quicker. I have not tried SLI with the x64 as I've found that having SLI enabled (i.e. for all games) gives a strange, jerky feeling to Crysis - even if I set the game profile to one GPU. And, to be honest, the difference in frame rates is minimal - also with the 169.01's the SLI profile for Crysis reads "Custom" - what the hell's that? (I've "heard" that SLI is "crippled" for the demo and that a driver "fix" is on its way - but Crytek also have to address a few issues regarding multi GPUS.) The jerkiness was something I also noticed with Lost Planet DX10 - but that disappeared with a later driver release. Hope this helps! G.G. EDIT: Doh! Forgot to mention - of course all the above applies to DX10! This post has been edited by Gandalf Grayhelm: Oct 28 2007, 12:47 PM -------------------- ![]() |

I get 5 seconds of blackness and then "CryEngine2 has stopped working". I get this with all of you mentioned NV Mon. options on/off. I get that attempting dx9 and dx10. -------------------- |

I had to go into the EA folder under my C drive and find the 32bit bin. I ran it from there.
I bumped the res to 1920x1200 and put everything all the way up. It ran fairly smooth! If I had to guess it was always above 30fps. -------------------- |

man....u guys got me all scared and I was sweat'n bullets waiting to get home to see if the crysis demo would even work on my poor sappy little rig...and DAMN STRAIGHT IT DOES!
I <3 my RIG I did absolutly nutt'n before I installed and played, no updated drivers or anything. I'm in love with the developers!! This game is off the chart compared too all others. Makes cs:s seem like it's slow motion. Makes BF2 seem like it has no depth. WOW Finally a game beyond it's time but not stupid like some of the alien type games...like halo Very nice, much needed change of pace indeed. If the dev folk wanted to get really really off the hook, they would have added crabs on the dock post just below the water (refering to the boat house area) Just dl'ed crysis beta last night, installed today, 10/29/07 I have: 1 8800GTS (that's right...no SLi Vista 64bit Bussiness Edition nVidia driver: 7.15.11.6222 Video Driver Date: 7/6/2007 And runs smooooooth as silk Although....how can I tell it's using dx10 as opposed to dx9? I looked all over the settings and didn't see anything. My vid settings are all set to high too. w00t!! Did I mention I <3 my RIG?? Further to my original post:
I have found that, for me at least, that the 64bit demo will also run if vertical sync is set to "Force Off". It appears that the demo only fails if the VS is left at its default setting - i.e. 3D Application. Also, obviously, these settings can be applied to the Crysis profile as opposed to the global settings. Further, I am currently only running the 64bit demo with SLI globally disabled - just too many problems with Crysis (and only Crysis)! when SLI enabled. Lastly - do you think I should change my signature to "The Way Its Meant To SLOWED" LOL! G.G. -------------------- ![]() |

cool! I'm glad it was not only me that could not get it trun on my stupidly expensive rig. Currently I have half a mind to sell my system for half price just to get rid of the headache and try again. But most people could not afford $8k so I guess I'm stuck with it.

Further to my posts(s):
I have just installed the 164.04 Drivers (Vista x64 - US Version) - Crysis x64 Demo now loads with Vertical Sync set at default (3D Application). Now all I need is a driver / patch that allows SLi ! 'Cos whenever I load Crysis (32 or 64 bit) with Sli globally enabled the game locks up as soon as I begin to move! G.G. -------------------- ![]() |
