Using two 6800GT cards with four DVI monitors. Identical issues. Worked perfectly in XP.

Hi,

I'm having the exact issue.. Geforce 6800OCT running Fable - The Lost Chapters in 1280 x 1024 on my Flat panel. The screen flickers out to black and my monitor says "no signal" then it goes back. And I get that same Not responding error from Vista. I switched back to XP on my dual boot and no problems.

My system:

PIV 2.6HT
1GB PC3200 DDR400 DDR
Geforce 6800OTC
Windows Vista Ultimate Retail

Sucks that we have to be the beta testers of these crazy non-working drivers.

I notice over 2 thousand views of this issue, so LOTS more people seem to have this issue that are not posting. Runs fine in XP so I highly doubt its a hardware issue at hand here.

I have NFS Carbon though have not tried it.

For Shame NVidia, for SHAME

I used to recommend NVIDIA cards to everyone I knew, specifically the ones that wanted ATI cards. Boy Vista just changed my mind.

I just find it weird that the nvidia website boasts "vista essential" products which are stamped with a "certified for windows vista" when everyone around the world is having problems.

When I was buying my PC, the ATI Graphics card was crashing 3D Mark and they told be to get nvidia because it's oh so stable...

LIES! bloated.gif crying.gif

*FIXED*

Crap solution, but it works.

Right click on desktop > display settings > classic theme

Looks ugly (like win2k) but at least the graphics card driver "nvlddmkm"

Let's hope nvidia fixes it soon

Short question...

Does it depend on which version we use? Im using the 64bit version...
Anyone has the problem with 32bit too?

Hi,

I'm having the folowing problem since I installed Windows Vista RTM x86 6000 on my PC.  thumbsdown.gif

I've a PCI-x Geforce 6600

Using the drivers :
Windows Vista x86 RTM
Version: 97.46

Every time I'm playing a game (f.ex. : Need For Speed Carbon)

After a while the screen becomes black and the game stops for +/- 15 seconds.
Windows tells me : Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, but has succesfully recovered.   bloated.gif
After that I can go on and play the game until the same problem happens again.

Philip.

SOLLUTION
Install Windows XP in a second hard drive

Windows XP runs everything fine
and is still recommended for all gamers right now

So it is a Driver or Vista problem.

Maybe both

I'm going to try xp tonight. I have had this error several times now. Sometimes I get a blue screen. My vista machine sometimes won't even run the experience index. I've got a 7600 GT and I've not tried many games as yet.

nVidia isn't alone on having this problem - take a look on ati's or matrox site, the situation is the same. Looks more like a microsoft bug than faulty gfx drivers

Well, I found something

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/displ...dm_timeout.mspx

However, i'm not sure what to do, change the key and disable detection?

Also, it speaks about a 2 second timeout on a request. That seems in my case a bit strange, I aint doing crap (so what is windows doing??) and it will still reset.

Enfin, enjoy.

Hello,
i am going to try a crazy idea.

Taking on the link that Weps put here i am going to change this line:

"TdrDelay: REG_DWORD. The number of seconds that the GPU is allowed to delay the preempt request from the scheduler. This is effectively the timeout threshold. The default value is 2."

i am increasing the value to 5

Later i will let you all know what happened.

I have the same issue . My screen also goes black and then after about 15s it goes back to working order and I get that driver stopped working and recovered message from vista.

Vista Home Premium
ASUS P5N32 SLI Premium 0709 bios
EVGA Geforce 8800GTX 100.59 drivers

Had nvlddmkm crashing every few minutes. If games DO load, they last a few minutes and end up killing the system. Another forum had someone mention turning off Windows Defender because it was having a conflict with the fact the video drivers weren't WHQL. Desperate to actually have my games work and Vista not crash just sitting still every few minutes, i tried it. IT WORKS. w00t.gif I now run all the games I used to play on XP with no more black outs, no mvlddmkm errors. I played Dark Messiah, inparticularly, for hours last night. Only issue I had with that game and HL2:Ep1 is 2 crashes that occured at random during loading from one scene to the other. I can handle that.. So far no BSOD either. Ok, so Nvidia isn't 100% to blame for all our pain and grief, it was Windows Defender being too defensive.. but Nvidia still has a lot of 'splainin to do on getting WHQL stuff out and last night's 2nd beta driver ain't what i was lookin for either! angry.gif
